Belden 1523A Coax RG-11 Cable 75ohm

Description

The Belden 1523A is the RG-11 counterpart to the 9116. It’s a thicker, lower-loss 75 ohm cable meant for longer runs.

Construction

• It’s a Series 11 CATV/broadband coax with a 14 AWG solid bare copper covered steel conductor, gas-injected foam polyethylene insulation, and a Duobond II foil plus 60% aluminum braid shield in a CM-rated PVC jacket.
• The center conductor is 0.064 in, the insulation is 0.280 in, and the overall cable diameter is about 0.393 in (9.98 mm).

Environment and handling

• It’s rated for indoor use (not riser or plenum). It’s also suitable for outdoor use in black only, and for aerial runs in black when supported by a messenger wire. It is not rated for direct burial.
• The maximum recommended pulling tension is 260 lbs, the minimum bend radius is 4 in, and the operating range is -40°C to +80°C.

Typical use
It’s used for CATV, broadband, and analog video, and for longer runs or backbone premise wiring.

Things to watch for

• Not plenum or riser rated: the 1523A is CM only. The 1523AP is the plenum version, with a plenum-rated FEP insulation and jacket.
• Steel core and aluminum braid: this keeps cost down and works fine for CATV and antenna runs. DC resistance is higher than with solid copper, so it’s a poor choice for powering devices over long runs. It also isn’t ideal for demanding serial digital video.
• Digital video: for HD-SDI or 6G-SDI, look at something like the Belden 7731A. It’s an RG-11 type with a solid bare copper center, a 95% tinned copper braid over foil, and a CMR rating, and it’s specified for 6 Gb/s UHDTV and 3 Gb/s HD-SDI.
• Connectors: RG-11 needs RG-11-specific connectors, because RG-6 connectors won’t fit the larger diameter.
